Pingtan County

Pingtan County is an island administrative area in the Taiwan Strait consisting of roughly 126 islands spread across land and marine zones. It sits approximately 120 kilometers from Fuzhou and has an extensive coastline that defines its geography.

The area became an established county in 1913 after centuries as Pingtan Ting under Qing Dynasty rule. This shift marked a transition from imperial to modern administrative systems.
