Kunming Changshui International Airport, International airport in Dabanqiao Subdistrict, Kunming, China
Kunming Changshui International Airport is an international airport in Dabanqiao Subdistrict in Yunnan Province. The terminal building extends over more than half a million square meters and features two runways, each stretching over four kilometers in length.
Construction began in 2009 and the airport opened for operations in June 2012. It replaced the old Wujiaba airport, which had served the city for nearly six decades.
The name comes from Changshui, a place near the city, while the terminal incorporates local architectural motifs from Yunnan Province. Travelers see bilingual and multilingual signs that underline the international character of the facility.
Metro line 6, shuttle buses, and taxis connect the terminal to the city center, located roughly 25 kilometers to the southwest. The site sits above 2000 meters in elevation, which may cause tiredness or mild dizziness upon arrival.
The facility ranks among the five largest single terminals in the country and forms a key gateway for connections between South Asia, Southeast Asia, and mainland China. Its elevation makes it one of the highest major international airports in the world.
