The Bromberg is the highest point of the Schönbuch at 583.6 m above sea level, a mostly wooded ridge about four kilometres long running northwest to southeast within the Naturpark Schönbuch near Altdorf. Its plateau is capped by Rhätsandstein; to the south it drops steeply about 150 m into the Goldersbach valley, while from Altdorf in the north it barely stands out. No roads lead up; it is reached only on forest paths.

At the southeastern end of the Bromberg plateau, at about 510 m, lie the remains of a late medieval hermitage (13th–15th century) with a chapel and a small dwelling, abandoned after the Reformation in Württemberg from 1534. Its Rhätsandstein walls were uncovered in 1974, badly damaged by Storm Lothar in 1999 and rebuilt stone by stone in 2004. The Bromberg has belonged to the Schönbuch Nature Park since 1972.

The name Bromberg refers to the hill's surface layer of rhätsandstein, a sandstone that caps the ridge. At the southeast end of the plateau, near the Kapellbrunnen at about 510 m, lie the remains of a late medieval hermitage, called the former chapel, with walls of stacked rhätsandstein. A memorial stone on the Weinweg forest path recalls the 1990 storm Wiebke and the bark beetle damage that followed.

No roads lead to the Bromberg; it is reached only on forest paths, for example from Altdorf, about four kilometres north of the summit. The climb from the village is gradual, while the southern flank drops steeply about 150 metres into the Goldersbach valley. A water tank stands on the plateau near the Schneiderweg.
