Ziegenhelle, Mountain summit in Rothaargebirge, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Ziegenhelle is a mountain in the Rothaargebirge region that rises to approximately 816 meters with a star-shaped structure featuring ridges radiating from the central peak. An observation tower with a viewing platform sits atop the summit, offering views across the surrounding landscape.
Surveyors established a trigonometric point at the summit in 1887, marked with a boundary stone for geographical calculations. This point was part of a larger mapping project used to chart the region.
The mountain serves as a starting point for the Myths and Legends Trail, which connects sites of local importance through marked paths beginning in the town of Züschen. Walkers follow these routes through forests and meadows to discover stories connected to the region.
The summit is accessible via forest roads and hiking paths, with the nearest parking available at the Snow World Züschen ski resort. The climb can be approached from multiple sides, and regular signage helps with navigation.
The observation tower was constructed in 2011 and stands roughly 15 meters tall with a platform at about 12 meters above ground. The structure received partial funding from European financing programs.
