The church honors Saint Adalbero, the 20th Bishop of Würzburg who served from 1045 to 1085 and supported monastery reforms across the region.

The religious building accommodates 650 seated worshippers and 1200 standing visitors, featuring a modern Rensch organ installed in 1995.

During World War II, the church suffered extensive damage in March 1945, leading to a complete reconstruction of its roof and vaults between 1945 and 1952.
