Alte Pfarrkirche St. Margaret, Baroque parish church in Sendling, Munich, Germany
Alte Pfarrkirche St. Margaret is a baroque parish church in Sendling with a four-bay nave and an octagonal tower. The tower rises to a lantern dome sheltered under a combined hipped roof.
The structure was built between 1711 and 1713 as a replacement for a Gothic church severely damaged in 1705 during the Sendlinger Christmas events. The baroque rebuilding reflected the district's recovery and renewal after this upheaval.
The church is dedicated to Saint Margaret, depicted in the main altarpiece carved by Franz Fröhlich. The interior features elaborate stucco decorations that shape the space with refined details.
The church sits in the Sendling neighborhood and is easily reached by cycling paths in the area. Visitors should check opening times since it functions as an active parish church.
A preserved stained glass window from 1493 survives from the original Gothic church and remains visible in the left apse window. This fragment unexpectedly bridges the two very different building phases of the structure.
