Description
Hohenhewen is a mountain summit in the Hegau region reaching approximately 843 meters, defined by basalt rock formations and steep eastern cliff faces. The distinctive basalt columns give this peak its characteristic appearance.
History
Medieval castle ruins from the 11th century crown the summit and once served as a fortress for the Counts of Lupfen-Stühlingen. These rulers controlled important trade routes passing through the region.

The name Hohenhewen comes from Celtic origins, where 'ceven' means a domed mountain, and this term shaped how the entire Hegau region got its name.
