Weßling, municipality of Germany
Weßling is a small municipality in the Starnberg district surrounded by lakes and green fields, built around the Weßling Lake. The town consists of old houses, small farms, and quiet streets with parks along the water and cycling paths through the countryside.
Weßling traces its origins back to the 13th century when it was linked to Seefeld Castle. A railway connection to Munich arrived in 1903, and the Oberpfaffenhofen airport was established in 1936 for aerospace research and industry.
Weßling takes its name from the lake that surrounds the village. The town maintains a down-to-earth culture where regular markets, local restaurants serving Bavarian dishes, and small community gatherings form the rhythm of daily social life.
Weßling is easily reached by S-Bahn commuter train from Munich, with a station in the town. The area is flat and ideal for exploring by bicycle or on foot, with well-marked paths along the lakes and through the countryside.
The renowned psychiatrist Alois Alzheimer was born here and left his mark on medical history. The local ice hockey team once played in Germany's top league on natural ice, a rare occurrence today.
