Rehden, municipality of Germany
Rehden is a small municipality in Lower Saxony surrounded by flat farmland, forests, and wetland areas. The landscape features the Rehdener Geestmoor, a large protected moorland, and the Hemsloher Kellenberg with its wooded hills suitable for walking.
Rehden formed as an administrative group in 1972 by combining five nearby towns and villages. The area developed over centuries as an agricultural region where farming remained central to daily life.
A viewing tower offers views over the moorlands and forests of the area. The Moorerlebnispfad trail guides visitors through the wetlands with information about local plants and animals.
The area hosts one of Europe's largest natural gas storage facilities hidden beneath the landscape, storing enough gas to supply many homes for extended periods. Despite its massive capacity, the site remains largely invisible to visitors exploring the fields.
