Apostelkirche

The Apostelkirche is a brick hall church with barrel vaults spanning the interior and supported by four corner pillars topped with late Romanesque carved stone capitals. The interior has been modernized to accommodate approximately 400 worshippers.

The original building dates to 1201 but was destroyed during bombing raids in 1944. Reconstruction took place in 1951, closely following the historical design.

The name refers to the twelve apostles, reflecting the Christian tradition of the place. Today it serves as a space where visitors can sense the shared history of Protestant and Catholic communities within these walls.

Visit during daylight hours to best appreciate the interior through natural light and the modern lighting system installed in 2012. This allows clear views of the preserved Romanesque capitals and other historical details throughout the space.

The building preserves capitals from the 12th century that originally belonged to the earlier structure, demonstrating the site's long continuity. A brass chandelier from 1743 still hangs in the interior, showcasing craftsmanship from that era.
