Kinderhaus, Residential district in Münster-Nord, Germany
Kinderhaus is a residential district in the north of Münster that spreads across both sides of the L587 regional road. The area divides into four distinct sub-centers: the main hub, Brüningheide, Bröderichweg, and Wilkinghege.
The district originated in 1333 as a leprosy hospital built outside Münster's city walls, known as 'kinderen hus' in local speech. It became part of the city in 1903 and has since shaped the northern expansion.
The district takes its name from a medieval leprosy hospital that once served people in need. Today, schools, sports facilities, and a local history museum shape community life here.
The district offers good road access with direct connections to the B54 federal highway, and reaching Münster/Osnabrück airport takes about 30 minutes via the B219 road. A car is useful for getting around since the residential areas are spread across the wider zone.
The Waldschule, founded in 1673, ranks among Germany's oldest school buildings still in active use. The structure stands as a witness to an unbroken educational tradition spanning generations of students.
