Kapplerbräu, Historic brewery and inn in Altomünster, Germany
Kapplerbräu is a gastropub and brewery in Altomünster featuring a Baroque facade with three bay windows and ornate gables facing the marketplace. The complex includes an Art Nouveau hall built in 1910 with a hip roof and an external staircase positioned on its southern side.
The property was first documented in 1561 and took its current name in 1671 when Johann Kappler acquired it and began brewing operations. Over subsequent centuries, it remained controlled by brewing families who sustained and expanded both production and the establishment's standing.
The inn takes its name from the brewer who acquired it in the 1600s and shaped its identity through his family's long tenure. Today, the dining rooms reflect this heritage through simple furnishings and wood details that guests experience while sitting in the same space where locals have gathered for centuries.
The establishment welcomes visitors throughout the year, with beer gardens and indoor areas offering different atmospheres depending on the season. Located directly on the marketplace, the straightforward layout and traditional setup make it easy to find your way and feel at home.
One room in the building is dedicated to writer Ludwig Thoma, who frequently visited the dining area and drew inspiration from the place and its patrons. This connection to a celebrated Bavarian author adds a literary dimension that many guests seek out when visiting.
