Burg Anstel, Medieval moated castle in Rommerskirchen, Germany
The rectangular complex includes a residential tower with sandstone-framed windows and a mansard hipped roof surrounded by water ditches.
The castle was first documented in 1155, mentioning Sigefridus de Anstele as its owner, and the Knights of Anstel family occupied it from 1209.
The entrance to the main castle displays a coat of arms stone dated 1722, marking the transformation into a baroque residential complex.
The castle grounds now host an agricultural business and an equestrian facility with stables, an indoor riding arena, and riding areas.
A brick bridge connects the castle courtyard to the main fortress across the moat, indicating the previous existence of a drawbridge.
