Burg Klevenow

Burg Klevenow is a manor house in Süderholz with a rectangular layout comprising two two-story wings, hipped roofs, and remnants of medieval towers. The main building blends architectural elements from multiple periods and sits within a 15-hectare park featuring a pond.

It was originally built as a border fortress against the Duchy of Mecklenburg and first documented in 1387. The structure functioned as a water castle until the 17th century before becoming a residential estate.

The name reflects the noble family who once ruled here, and after 1945 it served the local community as a school, town hall, and youth gathering place. This role transformed it from a fortress into a center of daily life for residents.

The estate sits within a spacious park with a pond that invites exploration and offers room to walk around. The grounds are easy to navigate and provide different vantage points from which to view the building and its surroundings.

A baroque half-timbered chapel stands within the park grounds, reflecting the private religious practices of the noble families who lived here. This small chapel is a surprising discovery tucked among the trees and landscape.
