Villenkolonie Altfriedstein is a residential colony with numerous private villas spread across former vineyard land in the Elbe Valley region of Saxony. The site contains about 58 buildings along various streets and pathways, including 17 protected heritage structures built in different architectural styles.
Architects Schilling and Graebner purchased the former vineyard estate in 1899 and developed it into a modern residential district with new streets and parcels. This transformation was part of a broader movement in Saxony to create upscale residential areas for the growing middle and upper classes.
The colony reflects how wealthy residents of the early 1900s chose to live, with spacious villas set in large private gardens throughout the area. This residential style continues to shape how the place looks and feels today.
