Radebeul, Administrative town in Meissen District, Germany.
Radebeul is a large district town in Meissen District located directly on the Elbe River between Dresden and Meissen. The settlement runs from the riverbank up to the slopes of the Lößnitz hills where vineyards spread across several kilometers.
The area was first documented in 1349 when several small villages existed along the Elbe. The merger of different settlements led to the creation of the present town in 1924.
Locals refer to their town as the garden city because of the many villas surrounded by green spaces built during the late 19th century. Winemaking remains a visible activity during harvest season when grapes are gathered from the hillside plots.
Tram line 4 and S-Bahn line S1 connect several stops within the town with Dresden. Visitors walking from the Elbe can reach the vineyard slopes and enjoy the view from higher ground.
A narrow gauge steam railway runs from Radebeul Ost station through vineyards and fields to Moritzburg Castle. The route has been in operation for over a century and is among the oldest of its kind in Saxony.
