Kynast, Cultural heritage site and winery in Radebeul, Germany
Kynast is a manor house and winery in Radebeul that consists of a residence, tower house, gardener's residence, bathing house, and terraced vineyards spread across around five hectares. The property sits on a slope where wine continues to be produced in partnership with Staatsweingut Schloss Wackerbarth, which manages the vineyard operations.
The property was first documented in 1407 when it belonged to a Dresden merchant family. In 1888, the estate underwent major expansion with the addition of a mansard roof that shaped the house into its current form.
The manor house displays architectural features from different periods, including an 18th-century sundial, a baroque fountain, and sandstone entrances set within manicured gardens. Visitors can encounter these design elements while walking the grounds and see how the property evolved through different hands and tastes.
The property is easily accessible on a slope among vineyards on the Radebeul side of the Elbe. Visitors can explore the grounds and taste wine on-site, though note that the terrain is hilly and sturdy footwear is recommended.
The tower house was built around 1750 as a pleasure and garden pavilion but received its distinctive turret during modifications made near 1800. This architectural addition transformed a simple structure into a striking focal point across the estate.
