Bilz-Sanatorium

Bilz-Sanatorium is a spa complex in Radebeul with multiple treatment buildings set within parkland surrounded by vineyards. The property comprises an ensemble of stone structures and green spaces that continue to define the local character.

Friedrich Eduard Bilz founded the facility in 1890 as a spa with innovative healing methods. His son Alfred later took over management and expanded the operation before it eventually changed purpose.

The complex displays architecture with Swiss influences, verandas supported by sturdy columns, and brick towers that shape the local landscape. These design choices reflect the status and appeal that spa facilities held in the region.

The former sanatorium is now residential housing and not fully open to visitors, though it can be viewed from outside. The location is in wine country and best reached on foot or by bicycle through the surrounding area.

The grounds still feature historical curiosities such as a mouse tower, artificial ruins, and remnants of the original Bilz bath with a wave machine. These elements reveal how experimental and varied the spa treatments were.
