Schloss Lössnitz, château
Schloss Lössnitz is a spa building in Radebeul with two wings surrounding an inner courtyard and facing south. The four-story structure in Swiss style features a brick facade, continuous wooden balconies, a crowned central tower with a clock, and details like corner turrets with peaked roofs.
Friedrich Eduard Bilz purchased vineyard land in 1890 and built an initial sanatorium for natural healing. As demand grew, he constructed the larger Kurhaus II (Schloss Lössnitz) from 1894-1895, later adding a bathhouse from 1896 onward.
Schloss Lössnitz was the center of a natural healing resort that attracted visitors from across the region. The architecture with its wide balconies and large terrace shows how healing practices and comfort were linked, allowing patients to enjoy views of the vineyard landscape.
The building is now a residential complex with protected status and can be viewed from outside, especially from the large southern terrace. Its location on the Albertsberg vineyard offers views of the surrounding landscape and is accessible via the streets of Oberlößnitz district.
The building was designed by architects Oscar Wend and Paul Eger, with the Gebrüder Ziller implementing the construction plans. The combination of health therapy with vineyard landscape was innovative and made the site a model for German health resorts of that era.
