Burg Wildenau, Medieval castle in Plößberg, Germany
Burg Wildenau rises on a hilltop in the Oberpfälzer Wald region, featuring defensive towers, ramparts, and a central keep within its stone walls.
The castle was built around 1100 by the Counts of Sulzbach, destroyed during the Hussite Wars in 1430, and subsequently reconstructed with enhanced fortifications.
The castle grounds host the Wildenauer Burgfest, a medieval market event where visitors experience historical traditions through demonstrations and performances.
The castle, now privately owned by the Ackermann family since 1992, underwent a ten-year restoration process to preserve its architectural elements.
The fortress stands as a recorded architectural monument under registration number D-3-77-146-44, representing medieval building techniques in Bavaria.
