Burg Wildstein, Medieval castle ruins in Teunz, Germany.
Burg Wildstein is a medieval castle located at 744 meters elevation whose stone remnants still stand on the hilltop. The ruins display sections of a circular wall and a shell tower dating from the 15th century.
The fortress was first documented in 1355 and passed through multiple owners over the centuries. By 1622, the lands fell under the control of the Palatinate region.
The name Wildstein reflects the wild character of the landscape that has surrounded this fortress for centuries. Visitors today can sense how the medieval settlement sat within this rugged terrain.
A walking path of around 400 meters connects the parking area at Wildstein 21A to the ruins on the hilltop. Stone seating areas along the route offer spots to rest during your visit.
Archaeological excavations in the 1990s uncovered major sections of the medieval fortification and revealed how the shell tower functioned within the larger defense system. This work showed how the structure adapted to the hilltop terrain.
