Burg Nordenbeck, Medieval castle in Nordenbeck, Germany.
Burg Nordenbeck is a medieval castle in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district with a six-story residential tower built of stone. The tower was originally surrounded by water-filled moats that protected the structure.
The castle was first documented in 1036 as an estate of the Paderborn office in Korbach, and became the ancestral seat of the Viermünden family in 1368. This family shaped the property for centuries afterward.
The tower contains medieval wall paintings and a chapel with a bronze bell from the 13th century. These elements show how religious and daily life were intertwined within the castle.
The castle is in private ownership and currently not open to the public. Visitors can view the exterior of the property from a distance while respecting the private grounds.
In 1412, Brosecke von Viermünden combined defense with the residential function by adding a fortified level equipped with cannons to the tower. This defensive section remains intact today and shows how the castle adapted to late medieval warfare.
