Burg Querfurt, Medieval fortress in Querfurt, Germany
The castle extends over 3.5 hectares of land, making it the largest medieval fortification in central Germany, with three defensive towers and double walls.
The first written record of the castle appears in the Hersfeld Tithe Register between 881 and 899, marking its early significance as a military stronghold.
The castle museum, located in the former granary building, presents exhibits about the structure's military, trade, and agricultural functions through the centuries.
The castle opens daily from April to October, featuring guided tours through the towers, walls, and underground passages of the medieval complex.
The central tower, known as Fat Henry, reaches 27.5 meters in height and represents the only remaining Romanesque structure within the castle grounds.
