Burg Rabenau, Medieval castle in Rabenau, Germany
The castle stands on a 280-meter-high rocky spur above the Oelsabach valley, featuring thick stone walls and defensive fortifications from medieval times.
The castle was acquired by the Burggraves of Dohna in 1227, who utilized it as a border fortress until its capture by Margrave Wilhelm I of Meissen in 1399.
The German Chair Museum, established in 1922, occupies the former outbuilding of the castle and exhibits the region's furniture-making traditions since 1979.
The castle ruins and museum are accessible through guided tours, with the site offering extensive views across the Saxony countryside and surrounding valleys.
The castle hill gained recognition in 1883 when it became the location of a furniture factory, leading to the establishment of the current upholstery manufacturing facility.
