Burg Rabenau

Burg Rabenau is a castle situated on a rocky ridge overlooking the Oelsabach valley with medieval stone walls and defensive structures still visible. The elevated position provides expansive views across the surrounding landscape and demonstrates its strategic location.

The castle was acquired in 1227 by the Burggraves of Dohna and served as a border fortress for the region. It fell under the control of Margrave Wilhelm I of Meissen in 1399, marking a shift in local power.

The German Chair Museum displays regional furniture and tells the story of craftwork traditions that have shaped the valley for generations. The collection shows how furniture-making became central to the local community's identity.

The site is accessible via guided tours that provide insight into the medieval construction and the location's history. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the climb is steep and the paths are uneven.

In the 1880s a furniture factory was built on the castle grounds, transforming the valley into a center for furniture manufacturing. This blend of medieval heritage and industrial craftsmanship still shapes the area today.
