Club W71

Club W71 operates from a converted kiosk building and runs concerts, film screenings, and public discussions throughout the year. The nonprofit welcomes members from age 16 who can participate in regular board meetings and contribute ideas to the program.

The center was founded in 1971 by young socialists and initially focused on film screenings. It grew from the cultural movements of the 1968 generation.

The center hosts free jazz, experimental music, and performances by international artists who have few other platforms. Visitors experience a space where social conversations and creative expression happen side by side.

The space welcomes visitors of all ages, though membership starts at age 16. It helps to check the schedule ahead of time since the program changes with the seasons.

During the late 1970s, this center gave East German artists a stage when they faced restrictions elsewhere. This role makes it a significant piece of cultural history during that era.
