Klosterkirche Sankt Trinitatis

Klosterkirche Sankt Trinitatis is a brick church with plain walls, white vaulted ceilings, and two towers rising 62.5 meters high overlooking the lake. The structure features a spacious interior where the choir occupies roughly half of its total length, creating an unusual proportion compared to typical church layouts.

The church was founded in 1246 and served various purposes over the centuries, including as a bakery during French occupation in 1807. Architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel oversaw a major restoration in 1834 that shaped its appearance today.

The altar features carved scenes from Christ's life dating to the early 15th century, which can be viewed up close inside. Religious portraits and artistic details throughout the interior show the church's place in local spiritual tradition.

You can climb one of the towers for views across the lake and surrounding landscape. The grounds are accessible via hiking trails of varying difficulty, so choose a route that matches your comfort level.

The church nave runs from southwest to northeast rather than the traditional west to east, an unusual orientation that becomes noticeable when you walk through the building. This quirk reflects how the structure was adapted to its lakeside location and local geography.
