Vietlübbe Church

Vietlübbe Church is a brick-built medieval building laid out in a cross shape with a prominent eastern apse. Its rounded arch windows carry decorative stone friezes that showcase the craftsmanship invested in its construction.

The building dates to around 1230, with some sections possibly older, showing architectural similarities to Ratzeburger Cathedral. This connection reflects how building styles spread between major religious structures across the region.

The name Vietlübbe reflects the region's medieval roots and early settlement patterns. Today it stands as a gathering place that connects the local community to centuries of religious tradition.

The churchyard doubles as a cemetery and offers a quiet space to walk around, while a late 19th-century mausoleum belonging to the Rudloff family marks the grounds. Take time to explore the exterior and observe the architectural details at a leisurely pace.

A wooden tower from the 17th or 18th century was later added, layering over the original Romanesque form. This addition reveals how the building adapted over centuries to serve the needs of its community.
