Dorfweil, Mountain district in Schmitten im Taunus, Germany
Dorfweil is a residential district within Schmitten im Taunus situated in the Weiltal valley at approximately 404 meters in elevation. The area features numerous hiking trails that wind through the surrounding Taunus mountains for outdoor enthusiasts.
This area was first documented in 772 as Wilina in the Lorsch Codex and developed as a mining settlement in the Taunus region. Ore extraction activities shaped the economic foundation and growth of the settlement during its early centuries.
The local church completed in 1906 displays a war memorial sculpted by August Bischoff showing a seated female figure. This monument honors fallen soldiers and remains a focal point in the village.
Visitors can access the Ferienstätte Dorfweil, a family vacation facility featuring an indoor swimming pool and conference spaces available year-round. This facility serves as a convenient base for outdoor recreation and group activities in the region.
The municipal coat of arms was designed in 1953 and features black mining tools set against a golden background. This symbol preserves the memory of mining importance in the settlement's past.
