Herz-Jesu-Kirche

Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a Catholic parish church in Weiden in der Oberpfalz with a clear, vaulted structure and two rising towers marking the front facade. The interior is divided into a main nave flanked by side aisles, creating an organized, open spatial arrangement that guides the eye toward the altar.

Construction took place in 1933 following a design by Professor Otho Orlando Kurz, at a time when the rapidly expanding town of Weiden required a new parish to serve its growing population. The project arose from the need to provide worship space as the community continued to develop.

The interior contains stained glass windows illustrating religious themes and a distinctive mosaic created by Professor Josef Eberz. These artworks shape the visual experience as visitors move through the space and reflect the artistic intentions of those who commissioned the building.

The church sits in a residential neighborhood and is reachable on foot from the town center. Visitors should be aware that services occur at scheduled times, and the building may be closed outside of worship hours.

A large pipe organ fills the church space with sound during services, equipped with numerous individual pipes and multiple manual keyboards. The instrument was constructed in the 1990s and significantly contributes to the acoustic character of the worship experience.
