Roter Turm, Medieval tower in Zentrum, Chemnitz, Germany

The Red Tower stands 35 meters tall and features a brick upper storey with pointed arched blind arcade architecture from the late 15th century.

Built in the 12th century as a bailiff's residence, the structure later became part of the city fortification and served as a prison until 1900.

The tower contains exhibitions dedicated to notable Chemnitz figures, with bronze plaques honoring them embedded in the surrounding pavement.

Guided tours of the Red Tower can be arranged through Tourist Information Chemnitz at Markt 1 by phone or email contact.

The design of this tower influenced industrial products, serving as a model for the shape of a 500ml dishwashing liquid bottle in 1968.
