The Parkeisenbahn Plauen is a rideable miniature train in the Syratal leisure area that runs on narrow 600-millimeter gauge tracks through the park. The electric train travels a route of about 1.1 kilometers and is the only train of its kind in Germany powered by overhead wires.
The train opened in October 1959 as a way to introduce children to rail travel, then stopped operating from 1977 until 1984 when it was restored. A local support group has maintained it continuously since its revival.
The train has been a cherished part of family life in Plauen for decades, connecting generations through shared rides and memories. Many people return year after year to experience this tradition and pass it on to their own children.
The train operates daily during school holidays and on weekends throughout the year, with easy walking access to the station and surrounding park area. Tickets are simple to purchase on-site from friendly staff who are happy to answer questions.
This is the only train railway in Germany powered by overhead electric lines, making it technically rare and distinctive. Some of the locomotives came from mining operations, connecting visitors to the region's industrial heritage.
