Freilichtmuseum Glentleiten, Local museum and theme park in Großweil, Germany.

Freilichtmuseum Glentleiten is a sprawling open-air museum with around 60 reconstructed buildings showing how people in Upper Bavaria lived and worked across different periods. The structures range from simple farmhouses to craft workshops, all arranged to create a sense of a working village.

The museum was founded in 1976 to preserve traditional building methods and rural life, and it houses one of the oldest surviving log structures from the Berchtesgaden region dating back 430 years. The assembled buildings come from throughout the area and demonstrate different phases of local agricultural culture.

The buildings and their names tell stories of how people lived in these Bavarian villages, showing the skills and trades that shaped daily life. You can watch craftspeople work with pottery, wood, and other materials using methods that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The grounds are easy to explore on foot with pathways running through different sections, though some areas require walking on unpaved terrain. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the landscape includes hills and uneven surfaces throughout the property.

The museum maintains traditional cattle breeds like the Murnau-Werdenfelser, a rare type that grazes freely across the meadows and fields of the grounds. These living animals help illustrate what rural life actually looked like beyond the buildings themselves.
