Waldemarturm

Waldemarturm is a brick tower rising about 33 meters with substantial walls that anchor it prominently in Dannenberg's townscape. Five internal levels are connected by a long stairway within the solid structure.

The structure was built around 1200 as part of regional fortification efforts. It later served a significant role during a key moment of conflict in the region's medieval period.

The structure houses exhibits about the region's development from early Slavic settlements through later periods. Visitors come to learn about the different phases that shaped life in this area over centuries.

Climbing to the top requires physical effort due to the numerous steps, but rewards visitors with views over the town. Wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to explore the different levels at a relaxed pace.

Excavations in the 1960s uncovered pottery vessels from several centuries, including wares from even earlier times. These findings show the area was settled long before the tower was constructed.
