Schloss Beichlingen, Royal palace in Beichlingen, Germany
Schloss Beichlingen is a palace in Thuringia made up of multiple building complexes, including the High House from the 13th century, the New Castle, and a chapel with Renaissance architecture. The different structures were built in different periods and together form a large complex.
The first known record of the castle dates to 1014 when Bishop Thietmar of Merseburg mentioned it as an imperial estate. Over the medieval and early modern periods, it changed hands several times and was repeatedly rebuilt.
The von Werthern family shaped this place for centuries, with members serving as military officers and administrators in the region. Visitors can see today how the different building parts reflect their long attachment to the site.
The palace operates today as a hotel with themed double rooms, private bathrooms, and flat-screen televisions. The complex can accommodate up to ten people and offers lodging in restored historic spaces.
After World War II, the castle served as a training center for teachers, kindergarten staff, and veterinary technicians. This educational use shaped the place for several decades and changed its character.
