Schloss Ostramondra is a castle compound in Thuringia built on the site of a medieval water fortress. The two-story building displays classical architecture with solid stone walls, thick defensive earthworks, and an ornamental arch above the entrance showing a deer among trees.
The castle originated in the Middle Ages as a water fortress and was inhabited by various noble families including the Counts of Beichlingen and the von Thangel family. In the 19th century, especially after 1829, the building underwent major renovations and came under the ownership of the von Krosigk family, who retained it until World War Two.
The castle reflects its past as a home for noble families who shaped the region for centuries. Visitors can observe from the grounds how the building and its surroundings once served as the center of local life and power.
The castle can only be viewed from the outside as it remains privately owned. Visitors can walk around the exterior walls, gardens, and grounds to observe the historical details while respecting the privacy of the residence.
