Halterner Talsperre, Water reservoir in Haltern am See, Germany
The Halterner Talsperre is a reservoir split into two main sections that together form a substantial body of water. The northern basin contains an island, while the southern area serves water sports and recreational activities.
The dam was constructed between 1927 and 1930 to store water for the region's needs. Over subsequent decades, its capacity was expanded multiple times to meet growing demand.
Summer concerts and cultural events draw crowds to the waterside throughout the warm months. The shore serves as a popular gathering spot where locals spend time with family and friends.
The site is easily accessible with a natural sand beach suitable for swimming. Visitors can find facilities for various activities including volleyball and other water sports throughout the area.
Water for supply comes from filtered groundwater sources rather than being taken directly from the lake. This separation allows the entire lake to be used for recreation without compromising the drinking water system.
