Johannisberg, Cultural heritage monument and mountain in Bad Nauheim, Germany.

Johannisberg is a 268-meter mountain featuring an octagonal tower in Bad Nauheim. From this location, visitors can see across the Old Town and the surrounding Wetterau landscape.

Between 117 and 138 AD, Romans built a signal tower on Johannisberg under Emperor Hadrian. This installation was part of the Upper Germanic Limes defense system.

The medieval church tower now serves as the Volkssternwarte Wetterau observatory, where visitors can join regular astronomy observations and learning programs. The building draws people interested in the night sky and scientific discovery.

The site is accessible via several maintained pathways, and Bad Nauheim's tourist information center offers guided tours. Plan your visit based on weather conditions and wear appropriate footwear.

Archaeological excavations uncovered diamond-shaped floor tiles from the Roman period that remain preserved at the site. These findings reveal details of daily life in a Roman military outpost.
