Großsteingrab Sachsenwald Alter Hau 1, Neolithic burial site in Sachsenwald, Germany.
The Großsteingrab Sachsenwald Alter Hau 1 is a long barrow from the Stone Age extending about 154 meters in length and about 8.5 meters in width. The earth banks that frame the burial mound are partially preserved and still reach a height of about 0.5 meters.
This megalithic tomb was built during the Neolithic period by early farming communities that had settled in northern Germany. It dates to the 4th millennium before Christ and shows the burial traditions of that era.
The site is part of a network of megalithic tombs in the Sachsenwald region and shows how early communities honored their dead and what mattered to them in construction. You can still see the remains of this ancient building method, which held great meaning for people of that time.
The site is located in the Sachsenwald and can be reached on foot by heading from Glinde toward Witzhave and then turning toward the Sachsenwaldau settlement. Access goes through a forest, so wear appropriate footwear and be careful in wet weather.
The burial mound maintains its original orientation from northwest to southeast, and some stones on the northwestern side were displaced by a walking path. This minor disturbance shows how the location has been used and changed over time.
