Jochhöhschlösschen, Baroque château in Pesterwitz, Freital, Germany.
Jochhöhschlösschen is a baroque château near Dresden with a two-story central building flanked by single-story side wings. Two entrance gatehouses frame the property and complete its traditional German baroque design.
Baron Günther Carl Albrecht von Nimptsch built the château between 1795 and 1797 as a vineyard retreat near Dresden. During the 1849 Dresden May Uprising, military artillery was positioned on the grounds during this turbulent period.
The name comes from an exclamation of joy uttered by the original owner, which eventually became 'Jochhöh' over time. This personal touch in the building's name reflects how local places often carry traces of their founders' personalities.
After major restoration work from 2000 to 2003, the building now contains private residential units rather than being open for tours. The property is primarily residential today, so public access may be limited or require advance planning.
Artillery pieces that stood on the property during the 1849 uprising are now displayed in the Dresden City Museum. These cannons serve as tangible reminders of the château's role in one of the city's most turbulent moments.
