Mönchhofkapelle

The Mönchhofkapelle is a chapel with baroque architecture located northeast of Raunheim near the Main River. The building displays characteristic features of this era, including a slate roof, a ridge turret, and a spire.

An earlier chapel at this location was destroyed during military conflicts in the 17th century. The present building was constructed as a replacement and received its religious consecration shortly after completion.

The chapel takes its name from a medieval monastic settlement that once stood in this area. Inside, visitors can see religious markings on the walls that reflect centuries of spiritual practice.

The chapel sits near walking and cycling routes that visitors can explore in the area. The grounds around the building are open to access, and there is plenty of space for strolling and examining the site.

During maintenance work, painted marks were discovered on the interior walls that date back to the late 1600s. These signs had been hidden under layers of paint for centuries and reveal details of earlier religious practices.
