Rathaus Eisenach, Renaissance town hall in Eisenach, Germany

The three-story red-painted building features a distinctive stair tower and intricate stone carvings on its facade, displaying Renaissance period craftsmanship.

Originally built in 1508 as a wine cellar, the structure became the town hall in 1596 when Duke Johann Ernst claimed the previous municipal building.

The stone relief works decorating the building were created by Hans Leonhard, a notable stonemason and master builder from Eisenach.

The building now functions as an administrative center, housing both the city government offices and the Wartburg savings bank since 1996.

Following a bombing in 1945, the reconstruction included the addition of a garden with stepped terraces on the south and east sides.
