Lutherhaus Eisenach

Lutherhaus Eisenach is a half-timbered building in the city center that now serves as a museum with multiple exhibition areas. The structure displays typical features of medieval homes belonging to wealthy families and offers various collections and exhibition spaces distributed across several floors.

The building was constructed in the late medieval period and is primarily known because Martin Luther lived there between 1498 and 1501 during his school years. The Cotta family provided him with housing, becoming connected to one of the most influential figures in European history.

The house carries the story of Martin Luther's formative years and shows how the local family welcomed him during his school days. Visitors walk through the rooms where he lived and sense the connection between his time here and the religious movement that followed.

The exhibition spaces are wheelchair accessible and the location is easily reached on foot from the city center. A museum shop is available, and guided tours in multiple languages provide deeper insight into the collections.

In the Luther Workshop, visitors can try hand-printing on a replica of the Gutenberg press and grasp the craft of early book printing. This hands-on experience shows how revolutionary the printing technique was for spreading ideas.
