St.-Georgsbrunnen, Medieval water well in Market Square, Eisenach, Germany

The St.-Georgsbrunnen features an octagonal base topped with a sandstone statue of Saint George defeating a dragon in golden armor.

Hans Leonhard, the city architect and stonemason, constructed this water well in 1549, marking a significant addition to Eisenach's infrastructure.

The fountain displays Saint George, who appears on Eisenach's coat of arms and represents the city's patron saint through medieval craftsmanship.

The water well stands on the east side of Eisenach's marketplace, connecting to three springs through an intricate system of wooden channels.

During the 1990s, the Eisenacher Gewerbeverein established the Hanjörgfest festival in May to celebrate this medieval monument.
