Propstei Buchholz, Benedictine monastery in Burgbrohl, Germany.
Propstei Buchholz is a monastery complex with a three-nave basilica built in Romanesque style in Burgbrohl. The structure displays blind arcades, pilasters, and ornamental cornices throughout its design.
The monastery was established in the early 12th century as an outpost of Gladbach Abbey and first appears in records from 1135. It formed part of the religious networks that developed in the Rhineland during that period.
The church honors Saint Servatius and displays craftsmanship typical of this region. Visitors notice the carefully shaped arches and columns that define the interior space.
Visits must be arranged in advance with Gerd Rothbrust, who manages the keys and coordinates access times. It is best to contact him beforehand to set up a convenient appointment.
After a destructive fire in 1951, local organizations and a support association worked together to save the building from planned demolition in the 1980s. The restoration effort shows how the community fought to preserve it.
