Polder Lüsche, Nature reserve in Bakum, Germany
The Polder Lüsche extends over 39 hectares of land, featuring an artificial retention basin with varied water structures and vegetation patterns.
The construction of this water management system occurred between 1966 and 1974, leading to its designation as a protected nature reserve in 1985.
Local residents participate in environmental education programs at Polder Lüsche, learning about water management systems and natural habitat preservation.
Visitors can walk along the 2-kilometer circular dike path, with access restricted to the top section to protect the natural environment.
The retention basin maintains a water depth of 2 to 3 meters and supports multiple fish species including zanders, pikes, breams, and eels.
