Polder Lüsche

Polder Lüsche is a protected nature reserve in Bakum featuring an engineered water retention system with diverse vegetation. The site covers approximately 40 hectares with water bodies surrounded by varied plant communities.

The water management system was built between 1966 and 1974 to regulate water levels in the region. The site gained official protected status in 1985, recognizing its ecological value.

The site serves as a space where people learn about water control and habitat creation through direct observation. Visitors can see how local efforts focus on balancing human needs with natural environments.

A circular dike path allows visitors to explore the site, though access is restricted in certain areas. These limits protect nesting birds and sensitive vegetation from disturbance.

The basin supports several fish species including zanders, pikes, and breams living in its waters. These fish communities play a key role in keeping the ecosystem balanced.
