Rheinpreußenhafen, Industrial port and architectural structure in Duisburg, Germany.

Rheinpreußenhafen is an industrial port in Duisburg with a 500-meter-long and 75-meter-wide basin connected to the Rhine via a 240-meter canal for cargo transfer. Today it functions as a storage and transshipment facility for liquid chemicals, accessible by a historic lift bridge.

Built between 1906 and 1908, the port originally handled coal shipments from nearby coal mines. The hydraulic lift bridge added in 1931 reflects the technological advances in port infrastructure during the industrial era.

This port is part of the Route of Industrial Culture, which presents industrial heritage sites across the Rhine-Ruhr region. Walking through the area, you can observe how the site remains connected to the broader story of regional industrial development.

The port sits directly on the Rhine and is accessible by both rail and road, making it a key transport junction. Be mindful when visiting, as the site remains an active chemical storage facility with ongoing operations.

The 1931 lift bridge is Duisburg's oldest hydraulic bridge of its type and demonstrates early industrial engineering. This structure once allowed ships to pass over the canal, and it remains a working example of that era's technology.
