Koblenz cable car, Urban aerial tramway in Koblenz, Germany
The Koblenz cable car is a modern transport system that spans across the Rhine River, linking the city center with Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Each of the 18 cabins holds up to 35 passengers and climbs approximately 112 meters in elevation during the journey.
The cable car was put into operation in 2010 as part of the Bundesgartenschau, a major horticultural exhibition that brought new connections to the city. This project marked a turning point for transportation development between the valley and the fortress plateau.
The cable car links two parts of the city that were previously difficult to access, making Ehrenbreitstein Fortress easy to visit for everyone. Today, both visitors and locals use the ride to move quickly from the old city center to the fortress, where history and museums await them.
The cable car operates from April through October and is accessible to visitors with different mobility needs. The ride takes only a few minutes, making it a convenient way to reach the fortress without having to walk up the steep hillside.
One of the cabins features a glass panel in its floor, allowing passengers to look directly down at the Rhine River and the boats moving below. This special cabin offers a thrilling experience for anyone brave enough to glance downward.
