Built between 1588 and 1592 by Michel Niklas, the castle replaced an earlier 12th-century fortress on the same ground. This construction marked a shift from military stronghold to a representative noble residence.
The castle displays architectural features typical of the Renaissance period in the Main-Tauber region. Its design reflects the wealth and taste of the noble family who made it their home.
