Bad Mergentheim

Bad Mergentheim sits along the Tauber River and offers several mineral springs, thermal baths, medical facilities, and a medieval palace at its center. The spa zone connects green spaces with bathing facilities, while the old town features half-timbered houses and squares that shape the historic cityscape.

The Knights of the Teutonic Order moved their headquarters to Mergentheim in 1525 and administered the town until Napoleon's troops arrived in 1809. The order shaped architecture and administration for nearly three centuries.

The Deutschordensmuseum inside the palace displays armor, seals, and weapons from eight centuries, showing how the knights lived and organized their rule. Visitors also see liturgical vestments and furniture in the halls that document the religious life of the order.

The thermal complex offers mineral water treatments, swimming pools, and medical consultations throughout the year, with direct train connections from Stuttgart and Frankfurt. The town center is easy to explore on foot, and many facilities are also accessible for wheelchair users.

The mineral springs contain sodium, chloride, and magnesium and have been used for liver, gallbladder, and digestive treatments since their discovery in 1826. The water flows from more than 200 meters (656 feet) deep and reaches the surface at a constant temperature.
