Löffelstelzen radio transmitter, Radio transmitter in Bad Mergentheim-Löffelstelzen, Germany.
The Löffelstelzen transmitter is a concrete tower standing 179 meters high in a forested area west of Bad Mergentheim at 365 meters elevation. It currently broadcasts FM radio and DAB+ signals to serve the region.
The facility began operations in the early 1950s with a guyed mast for medium-wave broadcasting. This structure was replaced by the current concrete tower between 1998 and 2000.
The station broadcasts regional radio programs including SWR1 and SWR Kultur to the Main-Tauber district and surrounding areas. These programs are part of public broadcasting and have shaped local media consumption for generations.
The tower is visible from forest paths in the surrounding woodland area. Access to viewpoints for seeing the transmitter works best from hiking routes through the local forest.
The transmitter underwent a significant frequency shift in 1989 from 1413 kHz to 711 kHz, which expanded its broadcasting range across the entire Baden-Württemberg region. This technical change marked an important moment in regional radio coverage development.
